'I
was always interested in art as I grew up. Turning something into a piece
of art using my mind and imagination was a thrill. I could be as creative
as I wanted and stretch my mind in all directions to accomplish my goal. Photography is like painting a picture with light and shadow on a canvas
of film. I can add color with expressions and emotions reflected onto
the film. That emotion can come from people in the the photograph or an
emotion you get when you look into that image. I can
sculpt a photograph much like a piece of clay, forming depth and details
throughout the image. I have always enjoyed photography and the connection
it has to art. Photography seemed to be an easy crossover for me so I turned what I
enjoy into a career.
I
was born in Juneau, Alaska but grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania. I attended
Academy High School in Erie, PA and then studied at the University of
Pittsburgh-Main.
After college I had
additional photography schooling from a number
of photography studios that I worked with in Pennsylvania. I am also a
member of the International Freelance Photographers Organization which
provides me with ongoing training and information.
Another asset was learning business pointers from long time "pros" in the industry, as well as going
head to head with the working world.
I moved back to
Juneau, Alaska to start a photography business of my own in 1997. There is so
much to photograph up here, it seems like it would take ten lifetimes to capture
it all. That doesn't intimidate me though. I'm ready to give it my best shot!
I enjoy all types of
photography and try to keep active in the different forms. In addition to
studio, wedding and outdoor photography I do a lot of freelance photojournalism
for different publications in Alaska including the world renounced Associated
Press news agency and other news publications. This is something that I enjoy and I
like the pressure and creativity it requires. You have to be locked, loaded and
ready to shoot at any second to freeze that second in time on a canvas of film forever.
I would be happy to take care of any photography need you may have! For
questions and further information on a photography project, prices and availability
please contact me.'
