Tree Bear

pic of the week 6/3/04

I was watching this cinnamon colored black bear for a while, one day not long ago, wonder around the woods near Basin road in Juneau.  All of the sudden it caught me by surprise as it climbed up a cottonwood tree like it was a cat or a monkey.  He reached as far as he could go, without the branches breaking, and started to eat the leaves and twigs from the top like a panda bear.  It was very neat indeed.  It almost didn't look real.
