Dall Sheep

Pic of the week 03/21/01

"I took this photo out side of Anchorage not to long ago.  Dall's Sheep are the only white, wild sheep in the world.  They thrive in the mountains surrounding Anchorage.  You can see many sheep on the cliffs along the Seward Highway between Windy Point and Falls Creek from the road.  They jump around and feed on newly sprouted vegetation.  When I took this shoot I was walking up a trail off the Seward Hwy. to see what I could see.  To my surprise this is what I saw.  He was a ways off just picking at plants on the ground.  I didn't want to get to close because the horns looked intimidating, so I used a big lens.  This shot looks a lot closer than I actually was, although the picture is in full frame, un-cropped.  He hopped off on his way after a few minutes."
