Totem Stacking

pic of the week 4/30/04

'I photographed these totems poles in Haines, Alaska last fall.  These poles are actually about fifteen to twenty feet away from each other mounted on the back corners and middle of a native Tlingit house which is used to put on shows in the summer.  With the positioning of my camera and the lens I selected it looks like they're sitting side by side.  Tricky huh?  This technique is called stacking because you visually stack objects that are in reality far away from each other.'

Alaskan Fact: Alaska is the northern-most, western-most, and eastern-most state in the USA.  Islands on the Aleutian Chain are on the other side of the 180th meridian, putting part of Alaska in the Eastern Hemisphere.  Wow!
