'I made this photo about a month ago when it was still cold in Juneau (Warmed up quite a bit again). The location is on the frozen Mendenhall Lake in front of the Mendenhall Glacier.

Before it really snows, the lake water freezes pretty solid and leaves a perfect smooth enormous skating rink. When the snow does come it's a little harder to ice skate on because you have to clear a patch of ice with a shovel. But for a little while you can catch it with no snow and an unlimited skating area. Notice I said about a month ago. Juneau had a warm spell and just about melted all the snow (at sea level) leaving the lakes and ponds with a clean watery surface just like the Zamboni does at a rink. Then when it got colder the water was left with a perfect sheet of ice which led me to this perfect picture.'
