"I made this photo at the top of a parking garage on 4th street in downtown Anchorage during the start of the Iditarod in 2001. The whole street is closed off and because the snow is usually plowed off by the city, they have to truck back in tons and tons of snow the night before the event. There is thousands of people that roam the streets of downtown Anchorage for this kick off. This year (2002) the Iditarod starts the weekend of March 1st in the same spot as the photo above. It's a lot of fun. You should make the trip some year."
