Moose on the Loose

pic of the week 04/26/01

'I was in Anchorage one trip, and I was driving down the road, when I saw, him.  It was a big moose on the side of the road in a residential area.  I must have been the only one to think it was neat because everyone else kept going by without a second look or hesitation.  He was just minding his own business eating twigs and branches from the trees.  I jumped out of the car and walked quietly into the snow, which came up to my knees.  I took out my camera and started shooting.  He knew I was close by and as long as I didn't bother him and he didn't run me over, it was O.K.   The two white lumps on his head is where his antlers used to be.  Apparently they lose them in the winter time.  Moose are very tall, and this one's back was over my head.'
