River of Ice

pic of week 9/27/04

"I made this image while flying over the Juneau Ice Field by helicopter about a month ago.  It is a picture of the start of the Mendenhall Glacier, flowing down to the left, and the top part of the Herbert Glacier, flowing from right to left.  There are a bunch of hanging glaciers on the mountains surrounding these two glaciers.  The Juneau Ice Field which receives about 100 feet of snow a year feeds both of these glaciers."
